My distaste for internet filters in libraries in schools has been rather apparent here on 750 Volts (here and here), but I discovered today firsthand how worthless they are.
Our history class was dispatched to the library to attempt research. While poring over an article on the Burma Road, I heard a shout to my left.
“Hey…what the?!..it won’t let me research!”
I looked over.
No, my site wasn’t blocked, but WorldWar1.com was in the West Springfield High School library this morning for…get this…violence.
Need I say more?

Kenton, have you tried using a proxy? http://proxy.org/ has a decent listing, and any proxy should let you past the filters. Worked for everyone at my highschool…
Oh, I know about the proxies. So does every other person with a pair of brain cells to rub together at WSHS (used most often to get at people’s Myspaces). That’s why the filters are a waste of taxpayer money…
