Antietam Woods Condo Association president and crime victims rights advocate Jeff Dion will announce his candidacy for the open Occoquan District Supervisor seat (vacated by Corey Stewart) this Saturday, December 9th. Dion will announce at the Old Hechinger Commuter Lot, introduced by Sen. Toddy Puller (D-Fairfax) and Mayor of Occoquan Earnie Porta.
Dion, after his sister was murdered in 1982, began his fight for victims rights, lobbying successfully for 13 victims-rights bills, including a law against stalking and a lengthening of the statute of limitations, and was awarded in 2005 the the Ronald Wilson Reagan Public Policy Award by the Department of Justice.
Dion will face Republicans Mike May (endorsed by Corey Stewart, who lost a 5 4-way nomination contest in 2003) and John Gray, one of whom will be nominated next Saturday, the 16th, during a convention at Woodbridge High School. The deadline to file is December 11.
Jim Webb carried 6 of 8 precincts, ending with a 1,321-vote advantage in Occoquan. The special election for the seat will be held January 30th.

Will his domestic partner be in attendance?
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Glad to Jeff stepping up for this race, it’s one that he can and should (will) win.
I for one am excited about one more VA Dem victory without having to wait until Nov. 2007.
Kent,
You got a few things wrong. Stewart won a 4-way nomination in 2003. Second, although George Allen lost the Occoquan District, Corey Stewart won it handily and won 6 of the 8 precincts. That bodes well for Mike May.
Point taken, Boomer.
Mike May, the presumed R candidate (will John “Bad Comb Over” Gray get more than 20% of the votes?) has a very poor growth record until recently. As we know he was appointed to the planning commission by former Chairman Sean (I’ve never seen a development I didn’t like” Connaughton, and for the first 2+ years on the Planning Commission May voted for virtually every devlopment no mateer how disastorous and poor planned. Now in the past 10 months he has voted against nearly every development. This stirkes me as another unprincipaled Republican similar George Allen.
