In the wake of new revelations about who Dick Cheney thinks Dick Cheney is (hint: petulant, but evil, six-year-old who doesn’t have parents), you may have seen Rahm Emmanuel’s new graphic of How The Government Works.

He is wrong. I diagram here the CORRECT chart.

Up until now, nothing scared me more about the Bush Administration than the fact they are born-again believers in the gospel of the unitary executive–in short, an interpretation of the Constitution that muzzles Congress and the courts, placing them in subservience to the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch claims all sorts of new extraconstitutional powers in the name of fighting terrorism–but in reality, they are giving the terorrists a victory by shredding the very foundation of our governmental system.
I was wrong, though. Since Cheney isn’t part of the executive, and he pretty damn well is above the executive, the Unitary Executive theory is a smokescreen. Really. The Bush Administration may believe in it, but the Cheney Admnistration has decided to go straight to the governmental theory of Divine Right.
