If I read this correctly, § 18.2-488 of the Virginia State Code makes burning the flag of the United States or of the Commonwealth of Virginia a class 1 misdemeanor, but only if you “burn with contempt”. Burning the flag while celebrating is still legal.
§ 18.2-488. Mutilating, defacing, etc.
No person shall publicly burn with contempt, [...]

Here’s the situation. You’re 15. You are bored, you take nude pictures of yourself, and put them on the internet. You are promptly arrested.
What kind of bizarre, dystopic universe did this happen in? Pittsburg, PA!
A 15-year-old girl has been arrested for taking nude photographs of her self and posting them on the Internet, police said.
The [...]

Oh man, this is pure gold.
Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) said today he is considering entering the race for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate.
Imagine a bruising, three-way convention slaughterfest between Chris Saxman, Jim Gilmore, and Bob Marshall. If I were Tom Davis, I might just jump back in for the heck of [...]

This Thanksgiving, while you stuff your faces full in a celebration of the twin American values of God and gluttony, remember to be thankful for something that we rarely think about, and that is clean, potable, drinkable water.
It’s easy to forget in an age of disposable water bottles that water is a real issue in [...]

Instead of finding out that American students are even more awful at reading than their European counterparts than ever before, the Program for International Student Assessment seems to have discovered that a printing error means America gets off scot-free! The scores are thrown out!
The reading scores of U.S. students on an international test are being [...]

750 Volts is now back online, with a spiffy new theme that has–wait for it–drop shadows. No seriously.
It has drop shadows.
And a slogan taken off of everyone’s favorite vegetable-named newspaper. Leave thoughts and brickbats.

Imagine for a moment that we can abandon the premise that the Founding Fathers got it right. Our first-past-the-post, single-member constituency method of electing legislatures has resulted in an entrenched two-party system that hampers coalition-building and snuffs out votes of those unfortunate enough to live in safe districts. Simple non-partisan redistricting won’t eliminate all of [...]

“You’d better dance with the one that brung ya
You’d better hold on to the one that loves you
You’d better turn around before we’re through
And dance with the one that brung ya…”

Now that Democrats statewide are done nursing their post-election hangovers (I hope), now is not the time to put the swords away. A [...]

Overall, Democrats had a good night on Election Day 2007, picking up the four seats required to hold a majority. There was, however, one glaring omission in the Democratic Senate wins, and that was the 37th District in Fairfax County. No other district had such an ideological mismatch between its Senator and its constituents. It [...]

It was definitely a whirlwind, running a School Board race since August. We lost (big). I definitely learned a lot, and had a bit of fun too. Thanks to everyone who gave their time and money in this effort!
With that, I have made my triumphant return to you, the huddled masses clamoring for more 750 [...]
